do you like cool things?
i really like cool things.
that's why i've been a big creepy lurker on this site for quite some time now. (it's ok. go check it out. i'll finish when you come back.)
right?
awesome?
so anyway...
the lovely amber who is responsible for much of the awesomeness has invited me to guest-post for painfully hip, which of course i happily agreed to. i feel honored that they find my writing that entertaining...
(i believe i had to re-write my response three or four hundred times before i could get more than "EEEEE!!!!! YESSSS!!!" out, and actually use the english language. as it is, most of my email was cut-and-pasted from "how to write a graceful acceptance letter when you're running laps of excitement around your apartment."
so let the games begin!
what exactly are these games, you might ask?
well, i wasn't going to tell you quite yet, but i do love letting the cat out of the bag, so here goes.
i let amber in on a little secret about a week ago, the secret being that i want to do something REALLY AWESOME.
this summer i am going to try to accomplish every dream i have ever had in my life, by heading out with my brother asher on a (month? two-month?) road trip around the country, where we camp, couch-hop, cook meals on a camp fire, write music, play shows, make fun of each other, hit up every single thrift store we can find to find treasures for my ebay store, (an extra-large van is on the "to be purchased for trip" list, just to haul the loot), ride bikes in circles around camp grounds, swim in lakes, take pictures of everything... oh, yeah, and document the entire thing on this here blog.
but then... the lovely amber said "i'd love to have installments of your road trip on painfully hip..."
and i got so excited i couldn't keep it a secret any longer.
which brings us to now.
and "now " looks like this:
i decided it was probably time to break the news to my parents that i would be coming to arizona in a few short months and stealing their tender young son from the nest (he'll be 18 by then... probably), and set off across the country on an epic journey.
my mother put me on speaker phone when i called.
i said, "hi guys... um, so, i have this blog, and i'm taking this road trip, and um, i'm going to steal asher and we're going to write songs..."
there is silence on the other end.
my dad finally says, "you have a bra and you're going on a road trip and you want to steal asher's thong?"
(now i understand the phone call i got from the family the other day where i was excitedly told that my oldest brother james had "given up on girls" and was at-this-very-moment hiking the red-rock with his new love interest brett. this turned out to be not what was happening at all.)
my mother says, "where can i find this blog?"
(she has since called me twice in the past twenty four hours to tell me that although she enjoyed reading what i've written, she feels that "loves tofu" is a bit strong, and suggests that i change it.)
through all this though, i feel that we have lumbered onto the right track, and now stand panting, naked and confused, at the starting line, waiting for someone to hand us some running shoes, some bug spray, a bottle of gator-aid and a map of the race.
or, as it may be, a van, some rent and gas money, and a hand-full of "hey! come crash on my couch!"
are you so excited?
i am.
other than that...
i spent the majority of yesterday listening to the newest wilco album and taking pictures of all the awesome things i'm about to list on ebay:
oh, yeah, and dancing around in my summer dresses:
oohh! ps! can you tell that i'm totally not wearing a cast on my left foot any more?!?!
my next surgery is scheduled for april 9th though... sigh... i can't wait until this is over.

hey! come crash on my couch!
(it's located in my sweet new house...)

ha ha! sweet!
you win the prize for "first friend to offer couch."
i'll totally be there. (new house huh? and you use the word "house..." not "apartment." fancy!)

fancy, indeed!
i guess technically it's still considered an apartment, because it's a house divided into rental units... but it doesn't feel like one, since there's a yard with trees and grass and stuff, and we only share walls with one other unit (floor/ceiling, actually), and it's awesome.
"diana coming to visit" is a pretty sweet prize...

Ok. You're hilarious. Each time I read about the roadtrip I pee a little bit. I've taken to just not wearing pants when I get online.
